Viral marketing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Redirected from Viral advertising)

The buzzwords viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can beword-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet.[1] Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages.

The goal of marketers interested in creating successful viral marketing programs is to identify individuals with high Social Networking Potential (SNP) and create Viral Messages that appeal to this segment of the population and have a high probability of being taken by another competitor.

The term "viral marketing" has also been used pejoratively to refer to stealth marketing campaigns—the unscrupulous use of astroturfing on-line combined with undermarket advertising in shopping centers to create the impression of spontaneous word of mouth enthusiasm.[2]

my interpritation of 'viral' advertising is as follows;

using a high profile social network or companys to spread a idea or concept to the rest of the community without directally informing them of the concept. my idea of a 'viral' video is a weird/ unusual/ funny ect. video that sticks in your head. thes videos usually have a underlying message allthough some 'viral' videos are just funny with no reason what so ever.

this is a example of a viral video that is advertising an Evian product.

This video made me laugh the first time i seen it. Evian have made a verry effective advertisement here, it is a catchy advert that you would tell your friends about and tell them to try and catch it.

his advertisement shows babies rollerblading, all together a unusual concept but it works. this is a fun enjoyable advertisement that is easy to watch unlike most on tv that droan on about the product.

this however is a viral video, a video that has spread around the internet like wild fire, mainly because of youtube these viral videos are becoming bigger and bigger.

this is a viral advertisement for snickers featuring mr T. this advertisement stuck in my head for a long time after i seen it. it is a funny advert that made a change from the normal usual boring product adverts like the m&s adverts.. god i could kill my self with those.

This is an advertisement by nike and pepsi. this advertisement is using the popularity of the footballers involved to sell the product.

this video has a medieval theme, this theme is to go along with the very small vague stort in which the advert is based.

microsoft vs wii

the next set of advertisements are wii

Comparrison

as you can see the xbox looks like the more sleek machine just from the style of the advertisement. the adverts are very cleverly made and have had allot of thought put in to them. the first advertisement is portraying Grand Theft Auto 4 (18) this game is a verry gritty hardcore game, this shows the serious side of the xbox and its graphical potential.
if you compare this to both wii advertisements, the games on the wii are all cartoon based and childish. this is a direct contrast from the xbox.

rspca

the RSPCA has the same concept idea as the other companies which i have looked at.
Once again this company uses sympathy to gets its point across.
Although the style of advertisement suits the theme i would like to see some variety in the style of advertisements in which these type of companies use.

the NSPCC

this is NOT an official advertisement for the nspcc, but to me it was more powerfull than any advert they have ever made.. the ammount of thought given to this advertisement is allot more than the nsppc gave to theres in my opinion,
the official advertisements for the nspcc are all the same and try to play on your heart strings.. i found this a welcome change.
This is an official NSPCC advertisement. i think that these adverts are no where near as effective as the first advertisement i gave.. these are to generic for abuse advertisements eg RSPCA DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ETC

This is once again another generic "heart string" advertisement.. not much more to say about this set of advertisements apart from in my opinion there adverts play on the realism factor a little to much for my liking.
